This year, no cups will be provided along the course, and all water stations will now be supplied directly from the public drinking water network. This new system will help eliminate nearly 3 tonnes of single-use plastic, representing approximately 8 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions associated with its production.
By reducing the amount of waste generated during the event, this initiative also helps protect the Mediterranean coastline, which the course follows for nearly 95% of its route.
To stay hydrated throughout the race, you will need to bring your own hydration system.
Hydration equipment will be available for purchase at the Marathon Village when you collect your race bib.
To ensure regular hydration throughout the course, the hydration system has been redesigned. New water points have been added , allowing runners to hydrate more frequently.
Aid Stations (drinks and food):
Km 10 • 15 • 19,5 • 25 • 30,5 • 35,5 • 38,5
Water Stations:
Km 5 • 7,5 • 13 • 17 • 22 • 27 • 29 • 32,5 • 34 • 37 • 40
This new system goes beyond simply removing plastic cups.
Implementing this new system represents a significant evolution in the organisation of the race's hydration stations. It requires rethinking certain logistical aspects and deploying new resources to maintain a high-quality service for runners while progressively reducing the event's environmental impact.
This initiative is the first step in a long-term environmental approach. Our objective is to continue improving the event's practices in order to sustainably reduce the use of single-use plastics while maintaining an outstanding experience for all participants.
This new approach does not represent a reduction in the services provided to runners. Instead, it reflects a more sustainable way of delivering hydration while maintaining the quality of your race experience.
By replacing single-use plastic bottles and cups with mains-fed water stations, we are making a conscious choice to reduce our environmental impact without compromising the level of service offered on race day.
Contrary to what some may think, this initiative is not a cost-saving measure. In fact, it requires additional investment, dedicated equipment, more complex logistics, and the mobilisation of even more volunteers and partners to ensure that hydration is delivered efficiently, safely, and smoothly throughout the course.
This is, above all, a commitment to a more sustainable marathon, helping to significantly reduce plastic waste while continuing to provide runners with a high-quality race experience.
This new system requires runners to adapt, but it represents a concrete step towards making the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes a more sustainable event.
By bringing your own hydration system, you help reduce the amount of waste generated during the race and support an organisation that prioritises reusable solutions.
Thank you for joining us in this new step forward. Together, let's make the French Riviera Marathon Nice-Cannes a benchmark for more sustainable sporting events.
